Fifteen masterpieces in the National Gallery

We will observe and analyze 15 masterpieces that will give us the key to understanding the evolution of Western painting between the 15th and the 19th centuries:
Jan van Eyck’s The Arnolfini Portrait, Piero de la Francesca’s Baptism of Christ, Hans Holbein the Younger’s The Ambassadors, two works by Leonardo da Vinci – The Virgin of the Rocks and the cartoon for The Virgin and Child with St. Anne and St. John the Baptist, Raphael’s The Madonna of the Pinks, Claude Lorrain’s The Embarkation of St. Ursula, a Rembrandt self-portrait at age 34, Velazquéz’s The Rokeby Venus, Anthony van Dyck’s Equestrian Portrait of Charles I, King of England., Caravaggio’s Supper at Emmaus, as well as some of the finest English paintings: two work by Turner, The Fighting Temeraire and Dido Building Carthage, Gainsborough’s Mr and Mrs Andrews and Constable’s The Hay Wain.

Times: The Museum is open every day from 10am to 6pm, except on Wednesday when it closes at 9pm. It is closed on Good Friday, the 24th, 25th and 26th of December, and Janaury 1st.
