If you plan to visit the theatre and the arena, note that these close at 4:30 pm in winter and depending on the season, at 5:30 pm or 6 pm the rest of the year. We recommend you take this tour in the morning so as to leave the afternoon free to visit Arles’ museums or one of two nearby sights: the Church of Saint-Honorat or Montmajour Abbey.

However, if you would like to visit the interior of the cathedral, it’s best to avoid Sunday mornings. We suggest you begin the tour in the morning to allow time for lunch in Avignon and to keep the afternoon free to visit the Palais des Papes and possibly one of the museums.
Informations: The Château de Lourmarin and Silvacane Abbey
Author: Elizabeth Petitjean Times: Note that the Château is closed in January, except at weekends. The rest of the year it can be visited daily between 10 am and 11:30 am, then from 2:30 pm to either 4 pm, 4:30 pm or 5 pm, depending on whether you are there in spring, summer or autumn. From 1st of June to the end of September, the Abbey is open 10 am until 5 - 6 pm daily, with the exception of Tuesdays when it is closed. Entrance fee: The entrance fee for the Abbey is around 6 euros. Comments: The Château de Lourmarin is situated on the outskirts of the village of the same name and is at the centre of a triangle formed by Avignon, Aix and Manosque.The Chateau is located 13 miles north west of Aix and 18 miles east of Cavaillon. Silvacane Abbey: the nearest village is Roque d'Anthéron. The Abbey is located 9 miles from the Chateau of Lourmarin.

The village itself is located some 19 miles to the east of Avignon. Set off from there on the N100 as far as Ile sur Sorgue where you’ll pick up the D25. You’ll be able to park in the large car parks outside the village. Roussillon: leave your car in the paying car park at the entrance to the village. You’ll pick up signs there directing you to the famous “Chemin des Ocres”. When you’ve completed your walk along the Ochre Path you can continue with the tour of Roussillon.

The abandoned village of Les Bories is just beside the village of Gordes. Comments: How to get to Gordes: It you’re on the D15, drive past the chateau and park at the top of the village. If you arrive by the D102, cross the village, drive past the château and turn onto the D15 leading to the top of the village. Whichever direction you take and regardless of where you park, we’ll meet in front of the chateau walls on the Place du Marché.

Author: Elizabeth Petitjean Access: By car Comments: Baux de Provence: Several access routes are possible. The most spectacular one is the D27 through the Val d’Enfer, or Hell Valley. As its name would suggest, this is a jumbled formation of rock sculpted by wind and rain. Alternatively, you can take the much wider and virtually straight. D27A. The Antiques and St Paul are to be found on the D5 about a mile and a half south of St Remy de Provence and 4 miles from Baux. If this is your chosen route, you’ll arrive on the D27A before joining the D5.
