The Mirabell castle and district

Salzburg - The Mirabell district (north west of Salzburg)

This walk will take us from the bridge over the River Salzach to the Mirabell Castle which was the official summer residence of the Prince-Bishops of Salzburg. Located in its attractive grounds, the Castle offers splendid views and magnificent garden sculptures. We’ll also see there one of the most magnificent staircases in the whole of Austria. During our tour, we’ll pass by the former residence of the famous conductor, Herbert van Karajan, the pretty Makart Square which was home to the Mozart family and the magnificent Baroque Church of the Holy Trinity. We’ll also have an opportunity to see the world-famous Salzburg Marionette Theatre.

Times: This walk will take us past the Baroque Museum which is not covered in this tour. If you wish to visit it yourself, note that it is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am to midday and from 2 pm to 5 pm, Sundays from 10 am until 1 pm and closed on Mondays. Note also if visiting the Mirabell Castle in summer, that weddings are frequently held in the Marble Hall on Sunday mornings.
