Berlin

Exuberant and Cultural

Berlin is a young city. And yet it has been marked by destiny as an emblematic site in the history of the 20th century. In just a few decades, Berlin has changed its face several times. From the metropolis of the wild twenties to the ruins of the Third Reich, from Socialist capital to showcase of the West, by way of the revolts of 1968 and ultimately reunification. Once again, Berlin is the capital of all of Germany, and has been swept by a fever for reconstruction that has seen the rise of magnificent buildings commissioned from the world’s major architects. Plus, it contains major collections in museums and galleries.
Berlin has become one of the world’s most important cultural capitals.

During the Cold War, Berlin’s heart beat slowly. However, since reunification, a burst of renewal has taken over – perfectly exemplified by Museum Island. It is home to the Old Museum and the Pergamon Museum, as well as the adjacent neighbourhoods on Oranienburger Strasse which - during our walk - will reveal their hidden Art Nouveau alleys, now inhabited by a new generation of artists.
