Between Brandenburg Gate and the Spree River, the prestigious Unter den Linden presents an overview of Berlin’s history. While walking down the avenue we will encounter the monuments that made Royal and Imperial famous: the Berlin Brandenburg Gate, the Neue Wache, the late 17th-century Baroque-style Arsenal… But we will also pass by the structures built by the 20th century’s greatest architects, for Berlin, once again the capital of a reunited Germany, projects itself into the future. This visit of the historical centre of Berlin will begin at Schlossplatz square on the site of the 15th century Berlin City Palace, which was demolished during the 1950s to house government buildings of the East German regime such as the Palast der Republik. From here, we will make our way to Alexanderplatz, Berlin with its enormous TV tower – another symbol of the cold war.
